Fish Island Preserve Cleanup Day

Saturday, February 7, 2026, 8:00 - 11:00 AM

Join us on February 7th to clean up Fish Island Preserve in collaboration with Matanzas Riverkeeper. Fish Island Preserve is a park with 62 acres of maritime hammock and salt marsh. Thanks to a grassroots effort to save Fish Island, the State of Florida purchased the property in 2019 with Florida Forever funds, to be permanently preserved for future generations. Let's roll up our sleeves and clean up our natural spaces!

The State of Florida required the property to have the trash removed as part of the acquisition process. The City and the seller split the costs to hire a contractor to remove trash, particularly large debris. The contractor removed well over 300 cubic yards of trash.

On January 11, 2020, there was a volunteer clean-up day. Over 25 cubic yards of trash were removed by over 250 energetic volunteers.

On Saturday, February 5, 2022, the City and Matanzas Riverkeeper held a Fish Island Community Cleanup. 103 participants were in attendance and removed 3,454 pounds of trash. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success!
