Fish Island Timeline
2001-2002
The Northeast Florida Blueway Florida Forever Project was approved by the Governor and Cabinet. This included the Fish Island parcel.
December 2011
The Northeast Florida Blueway Florida Forever Project was moved to the “Climate Change Lands” list of projects.
October 2018
A "Memorandum of Agreement and Confidentiality Agreement" was executed between the North Florida Land Trust (NFLT) and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).  NFLT negotiated an option agreement to purchase Fish Island.
April 2019
Appraisals provided by NFLT were independently reviewed and accepted by DEP.
June 2019
Northeast Florida Blueway Florida Forever Project gets ranked #5 in the Climate Change Land project category (approved by Governor Ron DeSantis and the Cabinet).
June 2019
NFLT executes an “Assignment of Option Agreement” with DEP for purchase of Fish Island.
June 2019
St. Augustine City Commission officially accepts responsibility for the management of Fish Island.
July 2019
The Governor and Cabinet approve the acquisition of Fish Island.
November 2019
Fish Island is officially acquired by the State of Florida.
