The establishment of the drop-in day center (consisting of 2 phases of construction) is a continued effort to improve the overall health and well-being of our community and those in need. In Phase I, we have created a new dining pavilion for the community’s decades-long Dining with Dignity meal program, which provides a free hot meal to those in need every night, all-year-round. Attached is a small facility that will allow unhoused individuals to have access to free bathrooms, showers, and laundry services. In Phase II (upcoming), the site will be transformed into a mini-campus and a larger building will be created, for the purpose of centralizing even more resources and service-providers. Here, partners will be able to offer their services and provide effective wrap-around support for vulnerable community members.
The City of St. Augustine is partnered with United Way of St. Johns County to find solutions to helping our local homeless population and provide a way for the community and our visitors to contribute in a meaningful way to support those efforts and the individuals seeking that assistance.
United Way of St. Johns County is focused on encouraging greater health, education and financial stability for our neighbors. The key to financial stability is a safe and stable place to call home. Our United Way is addressing the pressing issue of homelessness and housing by funding our partners on the front lines. In partnership with the City of St. Augustine, we invite both residents and guests to our city to financially support local programs that provide shelter, food, healthcare, and other essential needs to our most vulnerable and unhoused residents.
