Citizen Awards
These awards are presented by the City Commission to recognize individuals and institutions for their service to the community.
Citizenship Awards
Those qualified with be a graduating senior, based on his or her leadership and service to school, to community and to other students.
The award is a commemorative plaque, city lapel pin, and $200 scholarship award presented by the City Commission in a ceremony held at the beginning of the regularly scheduled second commission meeting in April.
Adelaide Sanchez Award for Historic Preservation, Restoration, Education and Interpretation
Recipients are persons who are recognized by the City Commission for significant achievement in the restoration, preservation, education and interpretation of historic resources in the City of St. Augustine.
Two awards are presented annually, one recognizing achievement in restoration and/or preservation of historic resources, and the other for education and interpretation of historic resources.
The award is a limited-edition statuette of a lion from the Bridge of Lions with a plaque presented by the City Commission in a ceremony at 4:30pm, prior to the first commission meeting in May to coincide with Historic Preservation Month.
Order of La Florida
Recipients are persons who have, over a long period of time, unselfishly devoted their time and talent to the welfare and betterment of our citizens and heritage and who have exemplified the finest qualities of citizenship and have contributed extraordinary services to the community.
The recipient must be at least 55 years of age. Membership is limited to nine living persons at any one time.
The award is a distinctive, traditional framed certificate to be presented by the City Commission at 4:30pm, prior to the first City Commission meeting in September to coincide with the city’s birthday, September 8.
de Aviles Award
Qualified recipients are those who are identified in the field of public service (elected, appointed, or employed) or those (resident or non-resident) well-known and respected by the citizenry who have dedicated and honorable service to the community of St. Augustine and St. Johns County. The award may be presented posthumously. One award is presented per year.
The award is a distinctive, traditional framed certificate presented by the Commission in a ceremony before the first regularly scheduled meeting in February, to coincide with Pedro Menendez’ birthday.
