Biography
Commissioner DePreter is a former owner of a sign and graphics business that designed, fabricated and installed signs, murals and graphics for businesses and homeowners in the Hudson Valley and tri state area of New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts. He was also a consultant to municipalities on wayfaring and brand identity signage and worked with non profits and conservation groups on graphics and signage for recreational areas.
In 1993, Commissioner DePreter and his wife Andrea bought their home in Lighthouse Park and used the property as a second home until retiring full time to St. Augustine in 2012.
Public Service
Commissioner DePreter served on the City of St. Augustine's Planning and Zoning Board from 2018 to 2024, with one year as Chairman. He was also Lighthouse Park Neighborhood Association President from 2015 to 2018.
In addition to his business experience, Commissioner DePreter is an exhibiting artist with a specialty in wood carving. He has exhibited and sold nationally for over 40 years and his work is in collections throughout the United States and Europe.
Education and Extracurricular
Commissioner DePreter received his BFA from California State University, Chico and his MFA from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
In his spare time he continues to work on his art, and enjoys the culinary, cultural and outdoor recreational opportunities that St. Augustine offers.
