City honors Patti Rang, 2016 de Aviles Award recipient

Flag at City Hall will be flown in her honor on Monday, December 1

News Flash Posted on November 26, 2025

On Monday, December 1, the City of St. Augustine will fly the American flag in honor of 2016 de Aviles Award recipient Patti Rang, who passed away on November 22, 2025.  This is part of the City’s protocol to honor deceased former city commissioners and other notable figures, including recipients of the de Aviles Award.

The de Aviles Award recognizes those identified in public service or those who are well-known and respected by the citizenry who have dedicated and honorable service to the community of St. Augustine and St. Johns County.

Patti, and her husband Carl, were presented the de Aviles Award by the St. Augustine City Commission in May of 2016 recognizing their more than four decades as enthusiastic participants in St. Augustine’s living history and reenactment community.  Their involvement included interpretations of the city’s British Period but grew to include the Spanish Periods through participation in programs of the Historic Florida Militia.

After sunset on December 1, the flag will be gathered and folded and subsequently presented to the Rang family at a City Commission meeting in early 2026.
