City of St. Augustine warns: SCAM ALERT

Ignore fake letters demanding payment for unpaid permits, NOT official City correspondence.

What you should know:

  • The City of St. Augustine will never ask you to wire money for permits or fees.
  • These fake letters may look official, but if something seems off, like a demand for immediate payment or unfamiliar contact info, it’s likely a scam.
  • If the email did not come from a citystaug.com email address, it is likely a scam.

What to do if you receive one of these letters:

  • Do not send any money or personal information.
  • If you think you may have been a victim of this or any scam, contact your bank directly, or contact the St. Augustine Police Department.  To report suspected fraud to St. Augustine Police Department, call 904-825-1074.
  • When in doubt, contact the City of St. Augustine directly using verified contact information to confirm permit status.
