Meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 17
The City of St. Augustine will host a public meeting on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at 5:00pm in The Alcazar Room of City Hall, located at 75 King St., to solicit feedback for the ongoing Citywide Vulnerability Assessment study.
The City was awarded grant funding for the vulnerability assessment in the amount of $500,000 by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Resilient Florida Program.
A vulnerability assessment helps a community measure potential impacts from flooding and sea level rise as well as identify structures, infrastructure, people, and natural resources that may be affected. This assessment is focused specifically on impacts to community assets. Through this project, the community will be better informed of the potential loss or damage to critical community assets.
Using the information gathered from the vulnerability assessment, the City will be able to formulate an adaptation plan that will include project recommendations that will make community assets in St. Augustine more resilient to flooding and sea level rise. Additionally, it will provide the City with a comprehensive assessment of flood risk. Completing the vulnerability assessment according to criteria outlined in Florida statutes qualifies the City of St. Augustine for additional FDEP project funding.
At the meeting, the public will have an opportunity to review preliminary results of the vulnerability assessment and provide feedback. The public will also be invited to provide input on focus areas and critical community assets that should be considered for adaptation project development. City staff will be available to answer questions related to the Citywide Vulnerability Assessment.
