The City of St. Augustine invites residents, business owners, and community stakeholders to participate in a national selfie competition, in cooperation with the Florida League of Cities and Engaging Local Government Leaders Network, on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
This event provides an opportunity to engage with the City and have some fun by taking a selfie in front of a municipal building or with staff, and then posting it with the hashtags #CityStAugSelfie, #CityStAug, and #CityHallSelfie, and tagging @FlCities, @ELGLNetwork, and @CityStAug.
In the past, the City of St. Augustine has been recognized in the competition for best pet, most historic, and funniest.
“We started participating in this competition in 2017 with our own employees and over the years, we have encouraged the community to join us,” said Melissa Wissel, Communications Director. “We would love to see residents and businesses post selfies on Facebook and Instagram in front of any of our buildings… stop by the fire department, police station, marina, or City Hall. And really anyone can do it, not just locals! Everybody loves a good selfie, and we would love to win another award!”
The City Hall Selfie Day initiative was created to boost civic pride in municipal services and leadership. Participation is open to everyone, including family members, pets, or friends. Creativity is encouraged, with some participants incorporating props, whimsical headwear, or coordinating outfits. For inspiration, check out this video from 2023.
