City Commission approves illegal parking fine increase

Changes go into effect Wednesday, October 1, 2025

News Flash Posted on August 28, 2025

On Monday, August 25, 2025, the St. Augustine City Commission approved Ordinance 2025-22, increasing illegal parking fines from $35 to $100.  This amendment addresses concerns that drivers are willing to pay a lower fine to park illegally instead of parking in legal spots and lots, or using free parking and shuttle services, when they are available.

Illegal parking includes yellow curbs, in front of fire hydrants, blocking driveways, and in loading zones, for example.  Often when illegal parking occurs, it causes interference in residential neighborhoods, blocks through traffic for first responders, and adds to traffic congestion.

Warnings will be issued for illegal parking to remind violators of the new fee, and the ordinance will go into effect on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
