City to dedicate Harbormaster Park at Municipal Marina, in memory of city’s first harbormaster

Ceremony scheduled for Thursday, April 25 at 10am

News Flash Posted on April 12, 2024

On Thursday, April 25, at 10:00am, the City of St. Augustine will have a ceremony to unveil the park sign, officially naming the green space in front of the St. Augustine Municipal Marina, Harbormaster Park: Dedicated in Memory of Sam R. Adukiewicz., in honor of the city’s first Harbormaster.

In April 2023, Commissioner Cynthis Garris sponsored a request to name the space adjacent to the marina, at the southeast corner of the Bridge of Lions, as Sam’s Park.  Per the city’s process for the official naming of public parks, public input was submitted and reviewed by a committee and a recommendation was made for consideration by the City Commission.

On May 22, 2023, the City Commission voted unanimously on the name of the park.

Adukiewicz joined the City of St. Augustine in 2006 and was Harbormaster for 15 years.  He retired in 2021; sadly, and too soon, Sam passed away in January 2023.  Throughout his career Sam earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and will be remembered for his kindness and compassion.  This park is dedicated to his memory so that he and his legacy will not be forgotten.
