Public art committee makes selection for artist
Committee will make recommendation to City Commission on Monday, August 26
On Tuesday, July 30, the City of St. Augustine’s Public Art Committee returned for its final public meeting to make their selection of the artist who will create the art installation at the May Street and San Marco intersection. The committee selected Ivan Depeña.
Depeña is a full-time artist with Hispanic heritage and a master’s degree in architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design. Born and raised in Miami, Depeña has lived and worked in Boston, San Francisco, Miami, and New York City before settling with his family in Charlotte, North Carolina. His projects have earned recognition, including awards like the Arts Public Art Network Year in Review for “Air/Traffic/Control” in 2019, “Surface" in 2018, and “Reflect” in 2012. Depeña has over 15 years of experience collaborating with architects, fabricators, and engineers.
On Monday, August 26, during the regularly scheduled City Commission meeting, Public Arts Committee member Christina Parrish Stone will present a summary of the committee’s process and findings, making this final recommendation for the commission’s consideration and approval.
