City to open applications for Residential Composting Program

Residents can apply for free compost bin beginning Wednesday, May 1

News Flash Posted on April 26, 2024

The City of St. Augustine is opening applications for the Residential Composting Program beginning Wednesday, May 1, until quantity limits are met.  Through the City’s Residential Composting Program, residents in single family homes within City limits are invited to apply for a backyard compost bin, delivered to their home free of charge.

Residents are encouraged to contribute food and yard waste to their compost bin to create nutrient-rich compost that can be used in their own garden or donated to a community garden.  Collection service is not offered as part of this program.

Two types of compost bins are available, an 82-gallon stationary ground unit, or a 43-gallon dual chamber tumbling unit.  The composter remains the property of the City and must be returned if the resident moves outside of City limits or decides to stop composting.

Complete information about the program, including eligibility criteria and the application form, is available on the City’s website www.citystaug.com/compost.

Questions may be directed to Solid Waste at 904.825.1049 ext.1 or via email at compost@citystaug.com.

Media inquiries may be directed to Melissa Wissel, Communications Director, at 904.293.3307 or email at mwissel@citystaug.com
