Body Art (Tattoo) Policy

No member may have body art that is excessive, obscene, indecent, violent, sexually explicit, sexist, or offensive. Body art may not promote or show sexual acts or behavior, or support prejudice or discrimination based on race, color, national origin, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or age.

No member may have body art that harms good order, discipline, or morale, brings discredit to the St. Augustine Police Department, or suggests support for or connection to any criminal or extremist gang or group.

Employees may not have any visible body ornamentation on the face, head, or neck. The head and neck area includes the head, scalp, face, and neck above the collarbone on the front of the body, and up to the first cervical vertebra on the back of the body, or any area visible due to an open uniform collar.

Depending on the location, tattoos may be reviewed on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Chief of Police.
