Light-Up! Night honorees named for 30th Anniversary Nights of Lights

Light Up Night Honorees HPS

Long-time city staff and participants recognized

The City of St. Augustine is proud to announce the 2023 Nights of Lights Light-Up! Night ceremony honorees.  Light-Up! Night is Saturday, November 18 with the lighting ceremony scheduled to begin at 6:30pm in the Plaza de la Constitución.  The lighting tradition began in 2003 and involves two light switches: one for the holiday tree and the other for the canopy of oak trees lining the Plaza.

"This year’s honorees have been instrumental over the past many years in making this special night a huge success, going above and beyond just hanging the lights,” Mayor Nancy Sikes-Kline stated.  She continued, “You can’t imagine the attention to detail that is required to pull off this magical night and to keep it going for all 10 weeks of the Nights of Lights season!”  Sikes-Kline also was quick to recall the recovery efforts following so many storms and hurricanes, saying, “And let’s not forget, we were ready in 2016, just barely two months after Hurricane Matthew… not to mention Irma and Dorian, of course last year, Ian and Nicole hit within just weeks of Light-Up! Night… nothing seems to get in the way of our dedicated staff and workers!”

The following individuals have been selected:

  • A. Joel Autry, Assistant Manager, Grounds Division
  • Chris Fitts, Angels in the Architecture
  • Tom Heath, Heath Electric
  • John Regan, P.E., retired City Manager
