The City of St. Augustine will fly the American flag in honor of former City Commissioner Harry Frantz, on Friday, December 23, which would have been his 91st birthday.  Flying the American flag is part of the City’s protocol to honor deceased former city commissioners and other notable figures.  The flag will be presented to the family at the January 23, 2023, regular City Commission meeting.

In addition to serving on the city commission from 1981 to 1983, Frantz also served as a chairman of the Port and Water Way Commission.  Members of the St. Augustine community might also remember Frantz from the early 2000’s when he was Santa Claus, meeting children at the Ponce de Leon Mall, local elementary schools, and other locations.  According to his obituary, Franz graduated from The International University of Santa Clause and was a member of the Real Bearded Santas.

Frantz was appointed to the City Commission in December 1981 and served until May 24, 1983.
