City's Public Works Department reorganized

Like many organizations, the start of a new year is a time for reassessment, evaluation and often the opportunity to conduct a reorganization to meet new and changing needs.

Such is the case with the start of the City of St. Augustine's new fiscal year on October 1 with City Manager John Regan announcing realignments of responsibilities in several areas.

The Public Works Department accounts for approximately half of the city's work force managing everything from storm water to tree trimming to trash collection to mobility. And those responsibilities are growing.

In response to that growth, the Public Works Department will revert to a previous structure in which responsibilities pertaining to utilities will be shifted into a new Utility Department and the Public Works Department will retain street and ground maintenance and picking up mobility and related parking operations.

Todd Grant, currently the Deputy Public Works Director will become the Utility Department Director and the city's Mobility Director, Reuben Franklin, will become the Public Works Director.

Current Public Works Director, Mike Cullum, will assume the responsibilities of Chief Resiliency Officer overseeing special projects related to sea level rise.

The staff changes are effective immediately.
