Program implementation, budget allowance to be discussed
At the upcoming City Commission meeting on Monday, March 22, Utilities Director Todd Grant and Environmental Program Coordinator Glabra Skipp will present research conducted regarding a new City Tree Canopy Enhancement Program and how the program can be implemented.
City staff have formalized a program that will allow residents to request a tree, provided by the City, to be planted within the right-of-way in front of their property or on private property located within the city limits. Certain types of trees will be made available, as determined by the availability of trees and the Right Tree Right Place initiative. Residents will apply online for a tree and the trees will be distributed based on budget allowance and availability. Once approved, it will take several months to receive applications, secure the inventory of trees and to roll-out the executed program. Tree distribution and planting will be scheduled later this year.
The discussion with the City Commission will include getting consensus as well as a budget allowance to proceed with implementing the Tree Canopy Enhancement Program.
