A socially distanced Arbor Day ceremony will take place at 11:00am on Friday, January 15, 2021 at Francis Field, located at 25 W. Castillo Drive. Parking for those who wish to attend the ceremony in person will be available free of charge at the Historic Downtown Parking Facility, located at 1 Cordova Street, adjacent to the Visitor Information Center, from 10:00am – 11:30am. When entering the parking garage, notify the gate attendant that you are attending the Arbor Day Ceremony.
The annual ceremony includes remarks by Vice Mayor Nancy Sikes-Kline, as well as the planting of two large, blooming magnolia trees along the events field. The Street Tree Advisory Committee (STAC) will lead a special presentation to celebrate the City’s designation as a Tree City USA for 38 years in a row.
In addition, there will be a sapling drive-thru distribution from 10:00am to 2:00pm, or while supplies last, via the W Castillo Drive Entrance of the Historic Downtown Parking Facility. This year, City staff will be giving away Winged Elm, Laurel Oak, and Southern Red Cedar trees.
