Holiday Schedule Update

City Office Closures Parking Trash Collection Schedule Changes Tree - Cycling Information Upcoming

City offices closed for Christmas, New Year’s holidays

Offices for the City of St. Augustine will be closed Thursday and Friday, December 24 – 25, and on Friday, January 1, 2021, in observance of the Christmas and New Year's Day holidays.

Free on-street parking and in City-owned lots on Christmas Eve

Parking in City-owned parking lots and on-street parking is free on Thursday, December 24, since Christmas Eve has been declared a federal holiday.  Drivers are urged to confirm if a lot is owned by the City of St. Augustine, and not a private operator, as many of those lots have strict towing policies.

Parking rules and fees at the Castillo de San Marcos lot and the Historic Downtown Parking Facility will be enforced.

Questions about parking may be directed to or call 904.825.1090.

Solid waste collection schedule modified

On Thursday, December 24, the City of St. Augustine Solid Waste Division will be open and collection services will remain on schedule.

Solid Waste will be closed on Friday, December 25, and residential recycling collection will be suspended; however, residential recycling and commercial garbage routes will be collected on Saturday, December 26.  All collections return to their normal schedule on Monday, December 28.

On Thursday, December 31, and Friday, January 1, 2021, Solid Waste collection will remain on schedule.

Questions may be directed to the Solid Waste Division at 904.825.1049, Option 2.

Recycle holiday trees with yard waste collection

A friendly reminder to place real, unadorned holiday trees curbside on Wednesdays during vegetative/yard waste collection.  In order to divert the trees for proper recycling such as mulch, all ornaments, lights, tinsel or other decorations must be removed from the tree, including the stand.  Artificial trees and all holiday décor should be placed with household garbage.

Light strands should not be disposed of in household recycle bins; however, they will be accepted at the Used Oil and Electronics Recycling Event on Wednesday, January 6, 2021.

For more information about holiday lights and tree recycling, contact Solid Waste at 904.825.1049, ext. 2, or send an email to

Sustainable St. Augustine Recycling Event

We are ready to ring in the new year with our annual after-the-holidays used cooking oil and electronics recycling event. In 2020, we collected nearly 50 gallons of used cooking oil and an entire trailer of electronics. We challenge YOU to beat these numbers and bring in even more items for recycling in 2021!

Bring your recycling items on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 from 7:30am - 2:30pm to Francis Field, 25 W. Castillo Dr. or 840 West 16th Street, Anastasia Island (Behind Parks & Rec Office).
