Activities included visiting local elementary schools
St. Augustine joined cities across the state in celebrating Florida City Government Week, a week-long celebration of municipal government offered through Florida League of Cities. The week is set aside each year as a way for municipalities to showcase and engage citizens in municipal government, and to provide and foster civic education and collaboration.
Commissioners and first responders visited St. Augustine area elementary schools, greeting students and participating in morning announcements and leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Those elementary schools included Ketterlinus, R. B. Hunt, Crookshank, Webster, Gaines and Cathedral Parish School.
Flagler College Student Government Association's executive board had the opportunity to meet with Mayor Nancy Shaver and City Manager John Regan to discuss their roles, responsibilities, and perspectives on local municipal government, and to hear about the challenges and rewards of being part of it.
At the October 23rd City Commission meeting, Mayor Shaver presented City Manager John Regan with a proclamation recognizing Florida's City Government Week, October 23- 29.
