Service will continue on first three Saturdays in AprilThe City of St. Augustine’s free Park & Ride Shuttle met with growing success over the past weekends it was in service and is expected to continue filling a need when it returns this Saturday, April 1. The service is being offered on Saturdays that coincide with large spring events at Francis Field and Easter holiday related events.
Scheduled to operate during what are traditionally the busiest weekends in March and April, the shuttle ran during the St. Augustine Lions Club Seafood Festival and the St. Augustine Celtic Music and Heritage Festival. It will start-up again to coincide with the Rhythm & Ribs event.
The Park & Ride Shuttle will operate on Saturdays, April 1, 8 and 15, from 11:00am until 11:00pm.
Free parking will be available at the St. Johns County Health and Human Services Building at 200 San Sebastian Way and at the San Marco Lot at 301 San Marco Ave. The shuttles will operate approximately every 20 minutes from the two parking lots to the St. Augustine and St. Johns County Visitor Information Center, 10 S. Castillo Dr., adjacent to Francis Field.
The service was well received its first weekend in spite of a slow start because of the late arrival of the shuttle buses, and last weekend the number of passengers increased. All total the shuttle served 2,282 passengers over the two Saturdays. Using the generally accepted industry calculation of three-people per vehicle, an estimated 761 cars were kept out of the downtown area during these peak-season Saturdays.
